Getting Started

Who can use Crellina Characters?
Crellina Characters is designed for creators of every skill level. Anyone age 13 and older can use the app — those under 18 require parent or guardian consent. Whether you’re a seasoned tabletop game master, a working novelist, an aspiring writer, or someone with a creative idea you can’t shake, the interface is built to be usable from your first session.
How quickly can I start creating characters?
Most creators have a complete first character — backstory, attributes, and portrait — within two or three minutes of opening the app. No prior AI experience required, no steep learning curve.
What are the basic steps to create a character?
Five steps:
  1. Select a genre. Choose from 13 (Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Romance, Horror, Adventure, Thriller, Mystery, Anime, Young Adult, Dystopian, Children’s, Historical, Urban Fantasy).
  2. Provide basic info. Name, age, gender, brief description.
  3. Generate. The AI composes the backstory, personality traits, and portrait.
  4. Refine. Adjust through 100+ attributes until the character matches what you had in mind.
  5. Export. PDF, image, JSON, Markdown, or plain text — or bundle a library as a ZIP.

Character Creation & Customization

What makes a character “complete”?
A complete Crellina character includes the AI-generated portrait, a detailed backstory, personality traits, physical description, motivations, relationships, strengths and weaknesses, and genre-specific elements. Each piece is editable, so the AI draft is a starting point you can refine without limit.
What character attributes can I customize?
Over 100 attributes, grouped into:
  • Physical: Age, height, build, hair, eyes, distinctive features
  • Personality: Traits, fears, motivations, goals, quirks
  • Background: Origin, family, education, formative events
  • Skills & Abilities: Talents, training, weaknesses
  • Genre-specific: Magic systems for Fantasy, technology for Sci-Fi, supernatural traits for Horror, and so on
Crellina for Gamers and Crellina for Writers add another 100+ attributes each, tuned for those use cases. And with Crellina World Builder, you can create the Worlds your characters inhabit, with their own geography, peoples, history, and lore.
Can I regenerate character images?
Yes. If the first portrait doesn’t match what you had in mind, regenerate. Each generation is a fresh interpretation of the character’s attributes. You can save multiple versions for the same character — useful for showing the character at different ages, in different outfits, or across different moments in their arc.

World Building

What is Crellina World Builder?
Crellina World Builder lets you create rich Worlds — the settings and environments your characters and stories live in. Like characters, each World includes AI-generated images, descriptive lore, and editable attributes across multiple categories, tuned for both tabletop gamers and creative writers. Subscribers also keep everything in Crellina Free (3 characters and 10 portraits per day, all 13 genres, unlimited libraries), so you can build characters and the worlds they inhabit on the same plan.
What can I define about a World?
Worlds are built from several attribute areas:
  • Core World: concept/tagline, setting archetype, physical geography, climate & environment, magic/technology level, peoples & populations, major settlements & nations, government & power structure, beliefs & way of life, and the world’s central conflict (“what’s at stake”)
  • History & Origins: how the world began, the defining event that shaped it, and where things stand now
  • Earth Mode (optional): base a World on the real Earth — choose a time period and a region/location (e.g., 1890s London, modern-day Indianapolis), and optionally add an “alternate history” twist (a “what if?” that diverges from real history). A standout feature for historical and alternate-history settings.
  • For Gamers: factions & power groups, notable locations & sites, hazards & threats, resources & economy, and adventure hooks
  • For Writers: themes & big ideas, tone & atmosphere, the world’s internal logic & limits, its sensory signature, and story potential
  • Genre-specific: tailored details for each of the 13 genres (e.g., magic systems for Fantasy, technology and alien life for Sci-Fi, the source of dread for Horror)
What images can I create for a World?
Three image types per World: an establishing landscape (a sweeping view of the world), a “life in this world” scene (people and daily life), and a world map. Like character portraits, World images can be regenerated and you can keep multiple versions.
What does the AI generate for a World?
Four kinds of world text:
  • A World Overview / gazetteer
  • The world’s history & lore
  • Adventure hooks (for gamers) or story seeds (for writers)
  • A “living in this world” sensory and daily-life description
As with characters, the AI draft is a starting point you can edit freely.
Which plans include World building?
Crellina World Builder (its own subscription) and Crellina Studio (which includes Crellina for Gamers, Crellina for Writers, and Crellina World Builder). World building is not available on the Free tier. Pricing TBD — see the pricing page.

Organization & Management

How do I organize multiple characters and projects?
Character Libraries let you organize characters by project, campaign, or story. A library for a novel-in-progress. A library for a tabletop campaign. A library for a short story collection.
Is there a limit to how many characters I can create?
Storage is unlimited on every tier. The only limits are on daily character generations and daily portrait generations, which vary by tier (see the pricing table).

Exporting & Using Your Characters

How do I export my characters from the app?
Open any character and choose an export format:
  • PDF — formatted character sheets, ready to print
  • Text — plain text for copying into a writing tool
  • Markdown (.md) — structured text with headings and lists for note-taking apps, static-site generators, and editors that speak Markdown
  • Images — portrait files on their own
  • JSON — machine-readable for integration with game engines and custom tools
You can also export an entire library as a ZIP file — useful for backing up a campaign, sharing a project, or moving a cast between devices. Library-level ZIP export works for both Character libraries and World libraries. Subscription tiers add specialized formats for RPG (Gamers) and writing tools (Writers).
Can I use my characters for commercial purposes?
Yes. Characters you create in Crellina Characters are yours to use for personal and commercial projects — published novels, tabletop RPG products, video games, comics, and more. See the Terms of Use for the full license terms.
Can I integrate characters into my game or writing software?
Yes. The JSON export format is structured for integration with game engines, writing tools, and custom applications. Direct integrations with major platforms are on the roadmap. For specific integration questions, email information@smartgenix.ai.

Is Crellina Characters free to use?
Yes. Crellina Free gives you 3 character generations per day, 10 portrait generations per day, access to all 100+ core attributes, all 13 genres, and unlimited character storage — supported by ads. It’s a real free tier, not a trial.
What subscription plans are available?
Five tiers:
  • Crellina Free — 3 characters and 10 portraits per day, with ads
  • Crellina for Gamers — 20 characters and 50 portraits per day, Quick Create, multi-genre characters, watermark-free portraits, Gamer Attributes Pack (100+ RPG-specific attributes), RPG-format exports, ad-free
  • Crellina for Writers — 20 characters and 50 portraits per day, Quick Create, multi-genre characters, watermark-free portraits, Writer Attributes Pack (100+ writing-focused attributes), Writer-format exports, ad-free
  • Crellina World Builder — everything in Crellina Free (3 characters and 10 portraits per day, all 13 genres, all 100+ core attributes, unlimited libraries) plus 10 Worlds per day, 30 new World images per day (up to 60 with regenerations), Quick Create for Worlds, world maps and landscapes, AI-generated lore and adventure hooks, watermark-free World images, ad-free

Account & Privacy

How do I delete my account?
From within the app: Settings → Account Settings → Delete Account. Confirm the action.

Note. Account deletion is permanent. All characters, libraries, and account data are removed and cannot be recovered.

Is my data secure and private?
Yes. Character data is stored securely. We don’t sell user data. See the App Privacy Policy for the full detail on what we collect, how it’s protected, and the choices you have over it.

Technical & Support

What devices and platforms are supported?
  • iOS — iPhone and iPad (iOS 14.0 or later)
  • Android — phones and tablets (Android 8.0 or later)
How do I report objectionable or inappropriate content?
From within the app: open the character’s dossier, tap the report icon, and submit. Reports go directly to the moderation team. We respond to reports within 24–48 hours and treat user safety as non-negotiable.
How do I report bugs or request features?
Two paths: We respond within 24–48 hours. Feature requests inform the roadmap directly.
